People.com Takes to the Skies with Gogo
Sep 1, 2010

NEW YORK -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- People.com, the leading celebrity news site with 12.4 million unique visitors (August comScore), and Gogo, the world's leading provider of inflight connectivity, announce the launch of a trial on all Virgin America flights beginning October 8th. People.com’s up-to-the-minute celebrity news and entertainment content will now be available to air travelers on a complimentary basis via Gogo® Inflight Internet.

The skies have become the latest Wi-Fi hotspot for the past two years since Aircell revolutionized the flight experience for passengers by delivering Wi-Fi access on Virgin America as well as other major commercial airlines. Known for its entertainment platform and stylish service, Virgin America became the first airline to offer in-flight internet on every flight in May of 2009. Through this partnership, Virgin America’s more than 300,000 monthly passengers won’t have to wait until their plane lands to keep up with People.com’s latest breaking news about their favorite celebrities.

“People.com’s wide mix of entertainment news is the perfect escape for air travelers while flying,” said Mark Golin, editor of People.com. “Celebrity news enthusiasts now have yet another opportunity to enjoy and engage with the People brand – either on the ground or at 35,000 feet,” he added.

“Beyond providing inflight internet access, we’re striving to provide relevant, real time, engaging content to our users,” said Dave Bijur, Vice President of Partnerships. “That’s why we are thrilled to provide passengers with People.com’s leading entertainment news content, and we hope to expand the trial in 2011.”
